While we believe that most educators want to do the best that they possibly can to help students develop into productive adults, there are many students who are accidentally lost in the shuffle by a combination of factors including overcrowding, systemic pressures, safety, and negative feedback. We are changing this formula at Silver Lake Preparatory School. We have small classrooms, family friendly faculty, a well monitored safe environment and we are using positive psychology. Learning does not have to be negative. Inclusion of emotional intelligence into the fabric of our daily schedule allows students to feel comfortable about expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings of others. Studies across the country are revealing that students at every level are often experiencing high levels of anxiety which impedes their learning and dampens their school experience. Our system of education lowers anxiety while promoting deeper learning and transformative thinking. We tend to motivate students to take on academic challenges with intentional rigor and appreciation and we make sure we support them every step of the way. We are family friendly and we strongly believe it takes a village to educate a child. We are part of that village and we recognize the value of collaboration with family members for a more successful outcome.
