Lower School Page - Grades K – 5
The early elementary grades represent the formative years of the educational system. Young children have the passion to look, listen, and explore their surroundings. We meet this spirit with support and encouragement, supporting the notion of the range of proximal development (Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory of Development). Through this, students will engage in meaningful project-based curricula that carry practical value.
We focus on the main school topics of writing and arithmetic. However, we are strong believers in the theory of multiple intelligences and are well-aware of the many other subject areas that need attention. Each student has different strengths and weaknesses that we aim to discover, maximizing the strengths and ameliorating weaknesses. We know that each child has a unique and powerful story, which he/she will learn to convey in a variety of ways including writing, speaking, music, and acting. This is untapped potential that provides the substance of artistic expression, research acumen, and philosophical thinking.
